Goodwill Gold: Album Additions
I want to start today by saying: I was way overdue for a trip to the Goodwill. I am always looking for an opportunity to add to my ever-growing vinyl collection, and I finally got the time! And, dang there was a good selection.
I decided to break my streak of constantly over-purchasing and restrict myself to four albums, but hey - quality over quantity, am I right? Plus, buying vinyl from Goodwill is always a gamble. You never know if they are water damaged or scratched beyond belief. Maybe someday I will stick a tip in their suggestion box recommending that they get a record player to test on... Then again, they might not get my money that way, so they will probably throw that suggestion right in the recycling. So, I won't waste my ink.
Anyway, you all know I am a sucker for throwbacks, so you won't be surprised by the selection. So, here's my list of good grabs from this time around...

Nancy Wilson - How Glad I Am
An amazing ballad singer known for her Broadway style, Nancy Wilson's album How Glad I Am is a classic. Released in 1964, this record is a gem. With a unusually long list of tracks and a smooth transition quality, I would recommend this album to anyone and everyone who is into power women of the 1960's.

Peggy Lee - All Aglow Again
Uh, yeah this one is obvious. I basically fell over when saw it buried in the stacks. I grabbed it and ran to the desk to buy it like a girl in Barney's on Black Friday. This album is iconic. That's it. Released in 1960, this was a hit right off the bat. 12 tracks and unlimited charm. Peggy Lee is the queen of not-so-subtle vocals with a brassy twist.

Julie London - Julie London
This album is different for me. I haven't really found a sultry voice like Mrs. London before, but dang - its awesome. I took a chance at Goodwill when I bought this, and I am really pleasantly surprised. This is the kind of album that plays in the long-lost jazz clubs of the 1950's. Hey, maybe I'll open one so I can listen to this on surround sound...
Hank Williams and Ernest Tubbs - Country Western Hits

When I bought this, I was really wanting to branch out. I will admit that country music is my guilty pleasure. I don't listen to it all the time, but when I do, I go all out. Despite the abrasive cover, I felt this vinyl could be a simple way to ease into the origins of new-age country. So far, I'm not upset about it. Try it out if you like some classic Americana feels!
Well, there it is folks! I hope you learned something or at least enjoyed reading about these albums. All of them are available on Spotify if you're more of a digital collector. Let me know if you have any suggestions in the next few weeks! After all, I love sharing my music with y'all.
