End of Summer Sunglasses
Summer is drawing nearer and nearer to its close and as it does, I am feeling more and more pressured to hold onto it. It seems that this feeling always shows up around this time of year. And as much as I want to live in summer forever, I know that it's endless hot days would eventually become too much for my rain-hungry heart to handle. However, included in the many things that I am wanting to hold onto this summer, are my favorite sunglasses. Yes, I do have a collection that some would call "excessive". But I won't apologize for protecting my cornea's! Especially, if they are shielded fashionably. So, I thought it would be fitting if I shared some of my favorites from this season with you. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!
1. Sporty One-Lens
I believe that I found these glasses at a thrift store called Buffalo Exchange on Hawthorne street in Portland. They are glasses that I usually pair with my "sporty-spice" outfits. And if you know anything about me, that means almost everyday. These are also my go-to driving glasses. After all, they do provide close to full-face coverage! Lastly, they are a lighter lens tint, which makes
it easier to see in late afternoon and early evening.
I have to admit that the arrow-detailing in the bridge of the lens provides relief to the age old nose sweats that occur on overly hot days. This, combined with the lifted nose pads, leave my face feeling surprisingly cool. I have yet to find a pair of budget sunglasses that share this feature. Just another thing to add to the shopping list,
I guess.
Though they sometimes feel thin, I think their lightweight quality is a bonus! They are great for hitting the track or even a quick summer hike. So, even though you may think one-lens glasses look too "modern", give them a chance!
2. Movie Star Sunnies
Everyone needs a trusty pair of sunglasses that makes them feel like Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's. These glasses are my pair. They always seem to class up my outfit, even if its just a T-shirt and jeans. The round lenses leave no room for blind spots and the dark tint lends itself well to protection on very sunny days.
There is something magical about these glasses. I think the allure of the vintage cat-eye is something missing from today's sunglass collections. Is it just me, or is there a empowering feeling that comes from wearing movie-star glasses?

3. The Classic Cat-Eye
Though they are a completely new addition to my collection this season, these cat-eye glasses have added a little bit of trendy charm to my closet. In the right situations, these glasses can really make a statement. I am not sure if I am quite cool enough to pull them off, but you know what they say: fake it 'till you make it.
I know that one of the common fears when it comes to wearing cat-eye glasses is that they are not meant for round faces. I think that opinion is straight phooey! If you find the right shade of confidence, these glasses will fit you perfectly.
These glasses - found at the one and only H&M - sit directly on your face. They do cause a slight bit of nose sweat (which provides issue for those who wear foundation), but are otherwise an excellent statement piece.

4. Diner Red
I think I can predict what you're thinking - "Wow, those sure are a statement piece". And dang, I would have to agree with you. Much like the cat-eye glasses before, I added these to my collection this year. They are see-through plastic with pointy ends which add a 50's Americana diner feel to every paired outfit. I have to admit that there is a certain challenge posed to those who purchase this pair of glasses. I warn... you must be outgoing and willing to see the world tinted red all day long. A challenge only for the brave!
